About Inn The Doghouse

Founded in October 2003, ITD is a safe hangout for friendly city dogs and cats. Daycare with our pack includes social fun, games and a little education. Sleepovers and Grooming is also available, where your dog can play and exercise during the day, be kept safe at night, and go home smelling good. While your pet is at ITD, we will enjoy and love them almost as much as you do.

"When you can't take them with you, take them to Inn The Doghouse."

Whitney Callahan

Whitney graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Affairs/Spanish from the University of Maryland College Park in 1996. She was Co-Chair of F.I.D.O., the citizens committee that helped build the Lakewood Dog Park, and until recently served as Vice President of CCLAS (Citizens Committee for a Lakewood Animal Shelter). Her family bred and showed Champion Chocolate Labrador Retrievers and Whitney has whelped over 40 puppies. Whitney is certified in Pet First Aid from the American Red Cross. Lon Camp

General Manager

Lon graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Kent State University in 1999. Lon’s animal career started at Place A Pet Foundation as PR Director and was promoted to Shelter Administrator where he helped organize community events such as the "Respect the Pet" campaign at Nautica in the Flats, which raised money for humane education in schools and brought awareness to the animal abuse issue. He collaborated with the APL of Cleveland, the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter and the City of Cleveland Kennels to transfer adoptable dogs to the Place A Pet shelter. The adoption rate went from 50% to 90% under his direction. He continued to sit on the Board of Directors and collaborate on spay/neuter clinics, grant writing and other formats which affected animals in the Cleveland and surrounding areas. He grew up on a farm and had many pets throughout the years. While having lost his beloved Golden Retriever this past year, Lon is taking his time to find a great dog to pamper for years to come.

Matt

Although he always loved dogs, he never realized his passion for their care until 2000. Matt attended Ashland University for Hotel/ Restaurant Management and worked at a large chain restaurant as the Head Baker. Not finding satisfaction in the restaurant industry, but feeling the strength of the human/animal bond, he went to work at the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter where he was a dog warden for almost ten years. In addition, Matt has worked at Gateway Animal Clinic for over four years in continuing care for many furry friends. Matt is a nationally certified animal control officer from NACA and certified in animal first aid from the American Red Cross. He also sits on a local animal care Board of Directors. Matt lives in Parma Heights with his fur daughters, "Kemo" and "Kotn".

Jessica

Canine Concierge

Jessica has a love for dogs that began when her parents brought a puppy home the same week they brought her home from the hospital. One of the hardest things she had to do was to leave her dogs at home when she moved away for college. Aside from owning dogs her entire life she also has nearly three years of experience in dog daycare and boarding facilities, where she has shown an affinity and skill for handling large groups of dogs who are hard at play while their owner's are hard at work. Jessica intends to continue working with animals while furthering her education so that she may one day own and operate an animal sanctuary for dogs and horses that will also function as a therapeutic farm for children with varying developmental disabilities. She currently lives in Oberlin with her 4 dogs -- Benji, Mischa, Jackson and Nanuk -- and their 2 feline partners in crime, Morris and Jade.

Scott

Canine Concierge

Scott’s love of animals started at a very early age while growing up with a multitude of dogs. As he got older, he traveled the country on many adventures while continuing his passion for all animals by volunteering and getting involved in community run projects that benefit their welfare. After returning to Ohio, he decided to maintain his love of animals in a significant way by working at the Cleveland Animal Protective League. While at the APL, he worked with canines in need of extra attention on a behavioral level, to ensure they were adoptable to a good and loving home. He is still involved with the APL fostering program, as well as promotes a trap and release program for feral felines in his neighborhood. Scott shares his life with his partner, Jess, his beautiful daughter, Riley Quinn, along with his awesome dog, "Paddy", 4 cats, a snake, a bearded-lizard and 2 sugar gliders…for now!

Kristin

Canine Concierge

Kristin had her first experience working with animals during the summer of her freshman year in college, where she was a ward assistant at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Copley, Ohio. Her time spent there pushed her to continue looking for positions where she would get to work hands on with animals. During college, Kristin worked at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium for three years in the Education Department, teaching zoo guests about wildlife conservation and management, while having the opportunity to expand her animal handling to more exotic species. After earning her degree in Psychology and Zoology from The Ohio State University in 2010, Kristin continued her pursuit of a career working with animals when she joined the team at Inn the Doghouse the following October. She looks forward to adopting a few furry friends of her own with her fiance Kevin, but for now she lives with her family, along with her 17 year old Shih-Tzu mix, Molly.
